"Don" was an unofficial title used in Southern Italy to show respect for someone of high social standing. It is not know why Don Tomaso was refered to in this way.
The Don's wife Vincenzina died in 1899 and the next year he married Filomena Brancaccio, a member of the 18th Century Napolitano nobility. They had no children.
Don Tomaso's son Alessandro emigrated to American in the early-1900s and started the American branch of the DiSilva family. Alessandro is the grandfather of Jim Caldarella, and the great-grandfather of the current generation of Caldarella and Kelly grandchildren.
